If one needed to distill the history of the Barbaras name into a single sentence, it would be that there were two primary branches descended from the first recorded Barbaras (Jean, 1620-1694 in Ostheim): the Protestant branch remaining in Ostheim, with 4 emigrations to the U.S.; and the Catholic Henridorff branch, with one emigration to the U.S. dating to the marriage in Henridorff of Jean-Jacques Barbaras (1728 - 1801) to Marguerite Demange in 1752. Henridorff is a small village in the Lorraine region that dates back to 1614.
